An interview with Ashley, of Asher Fleurs.
How did you get into flowers?
I grew up in a rural community next to a farm, I have always been amazed by nature, the wild rose bushes in front of our country home, queen ann’s lace flowing in the wind, the sharp edges on wild thistle. I used to pick wild flowers and try to preserve them as a child. Run around with my best friend in those flower filled fields. Those are some of my core life memories.
Did you have a gateway into the floral industry?
I worked in luxury fashion for 15 years. This was a passion but not as fulfilling as I had hoped for. However, in my floral design career I continue to use the same design basics I once did in fashion. Color combination, placement, depth of field, trend recognition, all of those skills I still use today as a floral designer.
Do you have a favorite flower?
Yeah, I love poppies, they are so dramatic. We dont get to see them very often here in Montreal, but when we do have access to them I snatch them up. I am also extremely fond of parrot tulips and double tulips. Mono botanical vase floral arrangements look amazing in homes. When you order blooms next spring, ask for some parrot tulips, you wont be dissapointed.
What stand out to you about the floral industry?
I have never met a group harder working, kind, salt of the earth individuals as I have in the local floral industry here in Montreal. From wholesale to florists, everyone is helpful and generous. I absolutely feel like I am exactly where I should be. If any of you are reading this, I love you all! Keep hustlin’!
Can you explain how Asher Fleurs works?
Asher Fleurs is a floral design studio, meaning we are not open to walk ins. You can order over the phone or by email and you can either pick up or we can deliver. We dont have a set list of bouquets and vase arrangements. Instead, you leave the designing up to us (the professionals) and we create one of a kind bespoke bouquets and vase arrangements based on the answers you provide us with when asking about the recipient. Yes, its a bit of a different concept but our clients LOVE it. Each piece is unique. Just like your loved one. It’s what we do best.
For events, we work closely with our clients to create magical installations that seemlessly integrate with the space, theme, couple, product.. the list goes on. We like to get to know our clients, this helps us really translate what they want into magical floral creations.
Where are you going next?
Columbia and the Netherlands. So many of our gorgeous flowers come from these areas and I hope to be able to tour the farms very soon!
